Tips for packing and moving a hot tub

When you decide to move to another city, one of the biggest decisions you have to make is whether to take your hot tub along with all other belongings or not. On one hand, you have invested a lot of money to enjoy your spa and you probably love it. However, moving such a bulky piece of furniture can be challenging and many people decide not to take their spa with them. Since hot tubs are heavy and require proper packing in order to remain protected during transportation, the best decision is to hire some of the reliable freight companies Idaho has and let the professionals help you out. Nevertheless, if you are moving short-distance, it might be a good solution to move a hot tub yourself. Packing and moving a hot tub doesn’t have to be that complicated if you follow our tips.

What you should know before packing and moving a hot tub

We know that you probably can’t wait to move your hot tub and be ready for relaxing and soaking your stress away. However, before you start with moving a hot tub, there are a few things you should know:

  • Hot tubs are massive – Even if you have a small model, it is much bigger than you might think. You will need a physical space to transport the hot tub, as well as wide halls and doors so that this hot tube can fit through.
  • Hot tubs are heavy – Along with the large dimensions of a hot tub, the overwhelming weight is something that makes packing and moving a hot tub difficult. Even the small hot tubs for two to four people can weigh from 300 to 500 pounds. The largest models can weigh a thousand pounds. Therefore, it would be advisable to hire Boise moving and storage to save you the trouble and help you relocate your hot tub.
  • Hot tubs are expensive – You are probably aware that hot tubs acquire a large financial investment. Apart from the fact that you had to pay a lot when you bought a hot tub, they also have an expensive ongoing maintenance.

Before packing and moving a hot tub you should be well-informed about the steps you should take.

How  to successfully pack and move your hot tub

The very first step of successfully moving your hot tub is gathering moving and packing supplies Boise. If you have decided to move your hot tub all by yourself, you will need all the necessary moving straps and supplies. Make sure you have enough moving straps, two furniture dollies, several plywood pieces, and a cleaning supply. You can find a moving dolly at a home improvement store. Visit the local store and rent a moving dolly.

The first step – Disconnect and drain the hot tub

In the process of moving a hot tub, the first thing you have to do is to disconnect the power and drain the water from the tub. This step should be easy since this is regular maintenance that you do once every 3 to 4 months. Once you disconnect the hot tub, remove the power code and drain the water through the drain valve located at the bottom of the tub. Do not forget to direct the drain hose away from the area you are to avoid saturating the patio or lawn.

Before moving a hot tub you need to drain the water and prepare it for a safe relocation.

Lift the hot tub onto the moving dolly

Before you proceed with lifting your hot tub, you should have at least four people to help your lift and maneuver the hot tub. First, you need to place plywood pieces underneath the hot tub. This will help you to place the moving dollies under the hot tub. Two people should lift one side of the tub, so the third person can slide the plywood under the tub. Repeat the process on the other side and lift the tub off the ground. After this, you would be able to slide the moving dolly under the hot tub. Once the dolly is placed properly under the tub, remove the plywood pieces.

Load the hot tub onto the truck

When you place the hot tub onto the dolly, you and your team can easily wheel the hot tub to the moving truck. To move the hot tub onto the moving truck, you will need one person to pull the dolly up the furniture loading ramp. The other person should be pushing the hot tub below, while the third and fourth persons should be standing on the sides of the ramp to balance the hot tub.  Place the hot tub back in the truck and cover it with moving blankets to protect the tub during the transport. You should also use tie-down straps to secure the hot tub and prevent the moving or shifting in the back of the vehicle.

Unload the hot tub and place it in a new location

After arriving at a new location or self storage Boise where you want to keep your hot tub, the first thing you need to do after opening the back of the truck is to pull the ramp. Slide the hot tub down the ramp, supporting it from the inside of the truck and from the outside. Wheel the hot tub to a new place and lift it up to place the boards underneath. Place the hot tub at the desired location the same way you lift it to place it on the truck.

Packing and moving a hot tub is not easy. However, you now have all the information and guidance you need to conduct a successful relocation. Nevertheless, our advice is to skip relocating the tub by yourself and hire a professional mover to do the job properly.
